Morning devotion: Read Psalm 68

Psalms 68:15  ¶The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan. 16  Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which God desireth to dwell in; yea, the LORD will dwell in it for ever. 17  The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place. 18  Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. 19  Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. 20  He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death. 21  But God shall wound the head of his enemies, and the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in his trespasses.

This portion of Psalm 68 speaks of the hills like Bashan who exalt themselves because they are bigger than Zion. Not realizing that God made those hills. God choses to dwell in Zion even though it is a smaller hill. God’s strength and power is not limited because of this choice. No, in fact, God’s power is unlimited and He has an innumerable company of Angels to do his bidding.

When Jesus stood before Pilot, he said he could call ten legions of angels for his defense. Have you ever read what angels can do? They can carry plagues, and cast giant stones to corrupt the oceans; they can reap with the sickle those who are to be judged by God. Oh, my friend, God does not need high hills to be exalted, He is God.

Verse 18 tells us that God, Jesus ascended on high and led captivity captive. That verse is also repeated in Ephesians. Ephesians 4:8  Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. This speaks of the very power of God, for who can lead the souls of man but God himself.

He will also lead you to salvation and eternal life if you will let Him. He will give gifts to you if you will let Him. His salvation brings so much to the child of God. Because, as verse 20 tells us: “He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death.”

Titus 3:4  But after that the kindness and love of GOD OUR SAVIOUR toward man appeared, 5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6  Which he shed on us abundantly through JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR.

There you have it, Jesus is God and our Saviour. It is Jesus which gives gifts unto men. The gift of salvation, the gift of eternal life, the gift of the Holy Spirit, Spiritual gifts, etc.

You can have the gifts of God or you can choose to have the reward of those in verse 21.

The choice is still yours,
