Morning devotion: Read Psalm 87

Psalms 87:1  ¶<<A Psalm or Song for the sons of Korah.>> His foundation is in the holy mountains. 2  The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. 3  Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah. 4  ¶I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there. 5  And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her. 6  The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah. 7  As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.

Notice the word of God says the foundation is “in” the holy mountains. Jesus is that foundation.

Isaiah prophies of Jesus as the foundation.  Isaiah 28:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

The New Testament declares Jesus as the foundation. 1 Corinthians 3:11  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

In that foundation, in that holy place, are the souls of those who are born again. It lists Rahab who was a harlot, Babylon, speaking of the gentile world; it speaks of Philistia and Tyre which speaks of the wicked and those who were deceived by him. It speaks of the Ethiopian crossing geographic and cultural barriers; then it says, “this and that man was born in her.” Oh, my dear friend, this Psalm is a beautiful portrait of the blessing of God to all who would call upon the name of Jesus Christ who was called of God before the foundation of the world.

Not only will the highest himself establish her, he will be in and with her forever. He will be the light of that city and will dwell with us forever. WOW!

Then verse six says: “6  The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.” Yes, my friend, God will check the Lambs book of life to see if your name is written there.

Revelation 20:12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Your name will be in the Lambs book of life ONLY when you place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. (Jesus is the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. It is his book of which we speak.)

The great ending of this Psalm is that there will be singers and singing in that great and wonderful city. There will be those who have the wellspring of everlasting life in that city. Forevermore we will rejoice in Jesus and his salvation.

The choice is still yours,
