Morning devotion: Read Psalm 88

Psalms 88:1  ¶<<A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.>> O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: 2  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; 3  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. 4  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: 5  Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. 6  Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. 7  Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. 8  Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. 9  Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.

As one grows old and the years draw nigh unto the end so this song is written of Heman the Ezrahite. He was a man of prayer and devotion to the Lord. His time was drawing near the end and yet, he loved and trusted the Lord.

As we grow older and life draws to a close, many things happen. Our strength begins to lessen, we spend more time in the doctor’s office for the physical troubles and waves that plague us. It is during this time that we begin to think about eternal things such as the grave and the deep. He probably had his friends go on before him making him one of the last to be alive. He says in verse eight that his acquaintance was far from him. He was lonely in his old age.

In verse seven he exclaims how the wrath of God is hard against him. As gently as I know how, let me explain this wrath. God tells in in Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

Everyone will experience this thing called death. It is the result of sin. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The word of God tells us that one event happens to all men. Ecclesiastes 3:20  All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Whether it be by age or accident or even this Novel Corona virus, this one thing happens to all men.

The question is this: Are you ready for the eternal? Are you saved, born again in Christ Jesus? This man, Heman, was. He so stated “O LORD God of my salvation,” He knew, heaven was his home.

We will all experience death; the greater question is where will you be after death?

Hebrews 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

The choice is still yours,
