Morning devotion: Read Psalm 107
Psalms 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. 19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. 20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. 21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
The word fool here means – one who despises wisdom – one who mocks when -guilty – one who is quarrelsome – of one who is licentious
Psalms 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
God says that the person who transgresses and commits iniquity suffer as a result.
Verse 18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
When they are ill, they do not want to eat, their soul loathes food. Sometimes even the sight of food makes them more ill. Then, without food, they draw near to death.
IT is at this time, at the time when death looms, that men begin to see the brevity of life. They begin to see the things of this old world are not near as important as they once were and eternity becomes the focal point.
Verse 19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
It is here that the LORD sends his word. Verse 20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
It is the word of salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
When a person makes that wonderful decision, he can truly in his heart, offer praises unto the LORD.
Verse 21 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the
Father.By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
The choice is still yours,
