Morning Devotion: Read Psalm 110

Psalms 110:1  ¶<<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2  The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3  Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4  The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

This is a wonderful Psalm describing Jesus as both Priest and King. It is one which is filled with prophecy and truth. It is so rich that to explain the entire Psalm in one day would take up the day. Today, we will cover verse one.

Psalms 110:1  ¶<<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

This fist verse gives us true identity of Christ Jesus. He is called of God, God. Yes, Jesus is God. The word “LORD” is the Hebrew word “Jehovah” and the word “Lord” is the Hebrew word “Adonai” which means strong and mighty one. God the Father is addressing Jesus as the strong and mighty one.

There are many who do not recognize Jesus as being God. They often make him second to God, even make him another God. They may even equate Jesus as not a God at all.

In Matthew 22 the Pharisees came to Jesus trying to disprove his claims because they thought he was just a man.  Matthew 22:41  ¶While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42  Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43  He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44  The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45  If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 46  And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

They knowing this Psalm could not refute the Lord Jesus.

When Peter witnessed to those who crucified Christ he also spoke of this Psalm. Acts 2:32  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34  For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35  Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

In the book of Hebrews the Lord reveals how this was accomplished. Hebrews 10:11  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

You see, Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. He came to this earth to do the will of God the Father, being God Himself. I know that may be hard to understand. But, Jesus, being the sacrifice for all sin and defeating death and hell on the cross of Calvary sat down at the right hand of the throne of God knowing what would follow.

There are many religions out there today that separate God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit only to their determent. Here is how it works; In one religion, people will say, you have to pray to Mary and she will talk to Jesus who will in turn talk to God to acquire your salvation. That is an attempt to separate the Godhead.

The Bible clearly calls Jesus God the father. Titus 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

While Jesus represents the Godhead bodily, we understand that salvation is through His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary. Thus, God the Father has ordained that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no man can come to the Father except through Jesus. That is God’s plan.

Acts 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

When all is said and done, Jesus will make His enemies his footstool and he will present all to God the Father that God may be all in all.

1 Corinthians 15:28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Can you see the truth in all of this? Are you an enemy of God? Can you see that Jesus is LORD and that He is the way the truth and the life? Would you trust Him as your saviour?

The choice is still yours,
