Morning devotion: Read Psalm 119
Psalms 119:163 ¶I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.
Psalms 31:6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.
Trusting in the Lord and loving His words are a great antidote to lying.
Whenever one considers the idea of giving a lie, he is faced with the word of God and the integrity of the Lord. His testimony is at stake. That in itself should be enough to prevent lying. That is, if the person is saved and follows the Lord. The unsaved and unregenerate person, has no problem lying.
Lying is used in many ways. It is used to slander, and belittle and accuse. Lying is used for protection and misdirection. It is used for intimidation and misleading; why, even the police are authorized to lie to a suspect for obtaining facts and for prosecution. Salesmen lie, reporters lie, parents lie to their children, the list goes on and on. Lying is a huge part of our culture. It is not right, but is exist.
Lying is not always with words but with feigned actions (like a look or a gesture) to give a false sense of trust or reliability.
Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Lying is often associated with hatred.
Proverbs 10:18 ¶He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
Proverbs 26:28 ¶A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Once a person is found to be a liar, he has lost trust. Trust is very hard to gain back once it is lost.
David said he hated lying but he loved God word. Psalms 119:163 ¶I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. He knew as we know, God’s word never lies. It is filled with God’s love and grace and mercy and yes, judgment.
There is one who never lied and never lies today. He is God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. They are three in one. God offers salvation to all without a word of a lie.
Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Did you know this, no liar will be in heaven, for lying is sin and no sin will be in heaven.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Do you lie? Are you a liar? Jesus can change that for you. Admit you’re a sinner and trust the Lord Jesus to save you from that sin. Romans 10:9-10 and 13.
Another good passage is I John 1:5-10
