Morning devotion: Read Psalm 119

Psalms 119:169  ¶TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. 170  Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.

Have you ever been in the position where you feel as if you needed God more desperately than ever? Have you ever been where you needed God to hear you because of some urgency?

David’s prayer became urgent here. He cries for his prayer to come near to God and supplications to come before God. That is urgency.

God hears and God intervenes. Isaiah 59:1  ¶Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

Psalms 3:4  ¶I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

Psalms 20:6  ¶Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Knowing God hears, he cries, give me understanding according to thy word.

Do not we all want to understand God’s word? Do you desire to know the will of God?

I am reminded of a conversation in Acts chapter eight where Philip leads a person to Christ. The man desired understanding of the scriptures and Philip taught him.

Acts 8:27  And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28  Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29  Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30  And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31  And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33  In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34  And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37  And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

My friend, the will of God is that you understand that Jesus saves.

Jesus said in John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

If you cannot see that Jesus is the savior of the soul, you need understanding.

My dear Christian friend, Job said in Job 28:28 “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

Psalms 119:169  ¶TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. 170  Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.

The choice is still yours,
