Morning devotion: Read Psalm 119

Psalms 119:173  ¶Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.

174  I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

One should have no issues with seeking the help of the Lord when one has given himself totally to the Lord and His word.

Psalm 37:3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4  Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5  Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Have you chosen the precepts of the Lord? Have you given yourself completely to the Lord so that His desires are your desires? Let me say that again, “so that His desires are your desires,” not your desires His desires. If your desires are your own, you have not chosen God’s desires.

David said, “I have chosen they precepts.” Another word for precepts is commandments. David chose the commandments of the word of God.

Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me.

Thou Shalt Not Make Unto Thee Any Graven Image, Or Any Likeness Of Any Thing.

Thou Shalt Not Take The Name Of The Lord Thy God In Vain.

Remember The Sabbath Day, To Keep It Holy.

Honour Thy Father And Thy Mother.

Thou Shalt Not Kill

Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery.

Thou Shalt Not Steal.

Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbour.

Thou Shalt Not Covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

These are the first commandments; the rest are given throughout the scriptures. Those include the abstinence of alcohol, drugs, hatred anger etc.

The commandments go well beyond those listed here, there is a new and greater plateau in one simple word “love.”

Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

David said: Psalms 119:173  ¶Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.174  I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

The precepts of God included love. Deuteronomy 6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

David goes further and says, “thy law is my delight.” To delight is something you love is never a burden even if the requirements are difficult. People are always striving to do, or work or live with something they love. People want the job they love; they want the right person to love they want the home they love. All of these require work and toil. Yet, it is never too difficult because they operate in love. In that capacity it becomes a delight.

I have heard people say; “it’s hard to serve God and give up the things of life.” I say, not if your love the Lord. When the desires of the Lord are your desires, there is no problem serving the Lord.

Jesus said: Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The choice is still yours,
