Morning devotion: Read Psalm 121

Psalms 121:5  The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6  The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

As in verse 2 so here, David names his keeper, it is none other than the LORD. That word “LORD” is the Hebrew name Jehovah. Yes, Jehovah God is the one who keeps every soul. He is the one who offers each soul the opportunity to be saved. He is the one who came and died on calvaries tree to pay for your sins and mine. He is the one who is also called Jesus whose name means “Jehovah is salvation.”

There you have it, Jesus is Jehovah. David knew this and you can know it as well.

Deuteronomy 7:9  Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

In verses 3&4 we find that our keeper does not sleep nor slumber. We do, he does not. We sleep and slumber spiritually when we should be awake and vigilant because of our adversary. The Lord does not.

The Lord is our keeper. He is the shade from the heat of the sun. That word shade is translated as defence in other verses. The LORD is our defense from the burning heat of the sun. He is our defense from the burning heat of the whatever this world throws at us. The LORD is our keeper.

He is the keeper of the night as well. When the moon is our, our LORD is our keeper.

1 Samuel 2:9  He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

We can see this in the Old Testament when the LORD kept Israel. He used a pillar of fire by night a cloud by day.

Exodus 13:21  And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22  He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

When Israel stopped and rested in their journey, God was in the centre of the camp. All of Israel pitched their tents around tabernacle where the pillar was, where God was.

The whole idea is that the LORD is the keeper, when he is the centre of the heart and mind of His believers, he will keep us.

Psalms 121:5  The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6  The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

Also note: The LORD is the LORD. Being LORD, means He is first and foremost in the heart and mind. He is LORD.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

It all starts with the Lord Jesus.

The choice is still yours,
