Morning Devotion: Read Psalm 121

Psalms 121:7  The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8  The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

The Lord is the keeper of soul. The word “preserve” is the same word as “keeper.” The Lord is the keeper or preserver of the soul. He is the preserver of your soul, if you are a believer in Christ Jesus.

That word “preserve”, instead of keep, makes this portion of scripture very special. It bears the idea of preservation. We are in a time of year when many put up and preserve foods for the upcoming winter. They preserve the food lasting value.

You, as a born-again Christian are preserved for a lasting value in Christ Jesus.

You were sealed for God. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

This sealing is not like sealing a jar of jam; the idea is that you were sealed until Jesus comes back to receive you. You are kept by God until the day of redemption.

Beside the preservation of the soul, we see a preserving in protection and direction. The LORD protects us and directs us.

Psalms 121:7  The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8  The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

On that wonderful Sunday morning when Jesus saved my soul, Pastor Koon said something I will never forget. “This is the first day of the rest of your eternal life.” From that time forth the Lord has preserved my soul. From that time forth He has preserved my going out and my coming in. How does the Lord do that?

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

There is no trial or blessing in life; there is no turn or decision in life that, if governed by the LORD, will cause us to fail. For God preserves.

Psalms 32:8  I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Psalms 48:14  For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Psalms 73:24  Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Psalms 23:1  ¶<<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Will you allow the LORD to keep and preserve you? Will you be saved in Christ Jesus today?

The choices is yours,

Pastor Cook
