Morning Devotion: Read Jude

Jude 1:20  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Building up yourselves on your most holy faith has many facets which include virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly love and Charity which is a love given by God, it is called agape love.

All of these wonderful aspects are important in building your faith however, the power and operating factors are the Holy Ghost, love of God and watching for Christ return.

In the phrase “Holy Ghost,” the word “Ghost” is the Greek word pneuma where which is also translated Spirit. It is where we get our word pneumatic. Most of us drive on pneumatic tires and breath air in our lungs.

Genesis 2:7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

You are alive because of the living breath of God. You are born-again when you have the living Spirit of God within.

Speaking of Jesus, Ephesians 1:13 says  “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

From the point of salvation, we walk in the Spirit, we live in the Spirit and we pray in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Jude 1:20  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

If you do not have the Spirit of God you are not born-again, you are not saved.

Romans 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

So, how does one pray in the Holy Ghost?

1 John 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14  And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Being saved, we pray according to the will of God. What is God’s will? God’s will be His word. By necessity we must be reading God’s word and praying according to His word which is His will.

Keeping context with Jude, we know it is the will of God that we identify those who would change the grace of God into lasciviousness so, we pray God will help us to see that and leave that. Especially in the last days when men would profane themselves to be Christ when in deed, they are antichrist.

On a personal level, we know God’s will is that we grow in virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly love and charity so we ask God to keep in growing in those areas. If someone or something or some action would steal your virtue, you begin to pray in the Holy Ghost that God would give you strength, opportunity, and wisdom to escape that.

If you need wisdom, you know it is God’s will that you be wise. James 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The point is this, God’s will be in His word. Read God’s word and know God’s will and pray in the Holy Ghost to stay there.

To be blunt, the word of God tells us not to do things and tells us to do other things.

Galatians 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20  Idolatry, witchcraft (drugs), hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

If you are praying in the Holy Ghost, you will know what is right and what is wrong.

The choice is still yours,
