Morning Devotion: Questions and Answers

Question: Does Satan exist? Answer: Yes

Satan was created by God. He was an anointed cherub that glorified God.

Ezekiel 28:13  Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

According to verse 13, he was covered with precious stones, stone that reflected and refracted the light and glory of God.

It also tells us that he was filled with tabrets and pipes. These were for making music in honour of God.

Exekiel 18:14  Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15  Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16  By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Verses 14-15 tell us that he was the one who was set to glorify God. The merchandise of his being, or the goodliness of the gems and tabrets and pipes caused him to sin and think himself to be something he was not.

Verse 15, tells us he was created and was perfect until iniquity was found in him, until he chose to do evil rather than righteousness.

It is like some looking the mirror and seeing themselves as beautiful and pride entering in their heart. It is like some one who has all the worlds goods and thinking they are great or some one who has intellect and thinking themselves to something. When in reality all they have came from God.

Ezekiel 18:17  Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

He has many names: Satan, Lucifer, Devil, accuser of the brethren, serpent, dragon, angel of light and many more.

Satan chose to sin against God by pride.

Isaiah 14:12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

His pride drove him to desire God’s place of glory. Simply put, he wanted to be God. God cast him out of heaven’s appointed place. He no longer glorified God.

God cannot use a person who fails to glorify him. If you, because of wealth, or beauty or intelligence, or whatever attribute God has blessed you with, fail to glorify God, you have the same pride as Satan. That my friend, is sin.

Proverbs 16:18  Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Psalms 34:18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

James 4:6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Would you humble yourself and come to Christ to save your soul? If you already saved, would you relinquish pride and live for the Lord?

The choice is still yours,
