Morning Devotion: Questions and Answers

Question: Who is the Holy Spirit? Answer” God.

The Holy Spirit is often misunderstood. Some believe the Holy Spirit is a force or an influence or a mystical entity, which is popular in our “new age world.” Some worship the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity.

1 John 5:7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

God has given us some great truth concerning the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19  Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20  At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

In John 14:16-20 we find that the Holy Spirit is one who comforts us and dwells within the believer. We also find in verse 20, that Jesus dwells in the believer.

We also find that the Holy Spirit is not a force but is defined in the masculine gender, He and Him. The Holy Spirit is not a “she” as some books and authors portray. Be careful what you read and believe about the Holy Spirit.

We also find that the Holy Spirit is a Spirit of truth in verse 17.

Let’s look at John 16:7  ¶Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9  Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12  I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14  He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

In John 16:7-14, We find that the Holy Spirit is used of God to reprove the world. That means convict the world. He reproves the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement.

As kindly as I know how, let me say; if you are not convicted of sin and the lack of righteousness in your life and of the judgment of God, you cannot be saved.

In verses 13, we find the Holy Spirit guides THE BELIEVER into all truth.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

He guides in truth because He guides by what God has said. What has God said? He said the word of God, the bible.

The instruction given is Proverbs defines this principle very well.

Proverbs 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3  Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

The Holy Spirit will never guide you to do anything contrary to the Word of God, never. He will always guide you into all truth; that truth is the word of God.

He will never glorify Himself as some religions and denominations believe.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: FOR HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 HE SHALL GLORIFY ME: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

You be careful if you are in a church that glorifies the Holy Spirit and not Jesus.

John 16: 8  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9  Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

My friend, are you concerned about your sin? Are you concerned about personal righteousness? Are you concerned about the judgement to come? Would you trust Jesus as your Saviour today?

The choice is still yours,
