Morning Devotion: Questions and Answers

Question: Is hell a real place? Answer: Yes.

While many today do not believe in a literal hell and it is not popular with modern churches who teach and preach love, it does exist and it is a real place.

A very good example of the reality of hell is written in Luke chapter 16.

Luke 16:19  There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20  And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21  And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

We immediately see some truths in Luke 16; the rich man was conscious in hell. The rich man was tormented in hell.

God has graciously given us His word to show us the way out of that dreaded place called hell. The rich man prayed for someone to go to his brothers and tell them the truth. God replied, they have Moses and the prophets let them hear them. That means they have the word of God listen to the word of God.

Luke 16:27  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28  For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29  Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30  And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

The bible speaks of Jesus who is the answer to life and death, to heaven and hell.

Jesus said in Revelation 1:18  “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

Matthew 10:28  And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The way of eternal life is to those who are wise enough to see the truth.

Proverbs 15:24  The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

Jesus is the way of life.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Someone once asked me: “If God is love why would He send anyone to hell?”

God sends no one to hell, man chooses hell by rejecting Jesus. It is a personal choice on you. To make no choice is to remain in condemnation.

John 3:18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

In fact, God doesn’t want anyone to perish.

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

He loves you enough to give you the truth, it is called the word of God, Moses and the prophets.

The choice is still yours,
