Morning Devotion: Questions and Answers

Question: Is hell real? Answer: Yes.

God’s wonderful word gives us all the information we need to lead us to Christ Jesus and eternal life. It is all we need to instruct us in living life and serving the Lord whom we love. It also gives us the other side of the equation concerning eternal death and hell.

There are both eternal life and eternal death in the future for every soul. The destiny of God is given to you to choose.

We know all mankind was born in sin. Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

As a result of being born in sin, man’s destiny is hell. Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

In this case, death means separation from God. 2 Thessalonians 1:9  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction FROM THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD, and from the glory of his power;

From the presence of the Lord leaves only one place, hell.

So, what is hell like?

Hell, last forever. Matthew 25:46  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Hell, is an eternal fire and torment.

Matthew 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Luke 16:23  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Matthew 13:41  The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42  And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Speaking about Jesus Matthew 3:12 says:  “Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

The chaff is the ungodly. Psalms 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Hell is a place of haunting remembrance and unfulfilled desires. Read the entire account of Luke 16:19-31

It is interesting to note that the rich man wanted someone from the dead to go and tell his brothers about the terrible place. He was reminded that one did rise from the dead, Jesus. The answer is in the word.

Luke 16:27  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28  For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29  Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30  And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice is still yours,
