Morning Devotion: Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:16  Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

This simply means, thou shalt not lie. Have you ever lied? Have you ever told something about someone that was not true, or said something about someone when you really did not know the truth? Another question would be, “Who is your neighbour?” Your neighbour is your fellow human being. The person you work with is your neighbour, your boss is your neighbour, your spouse, your child, your store clerk, the person in the car next to you at the light is your neighbour.

That word “false” means to deceive, to bring fraud, to lie, to be injurious, whether by subtilty or out right in your face lie. Telling something that you know to be wrong is a lie.

I once heard a police officer state: “Everybody lies.” Is the world in such a state that everybody lies? Do you lie? He was telling me about those who hallow drive. That is when people speed while driving. When they see a cop, they slow down and appear to be a good driver until they get past the cop, then they speed up again. That is lying.

Men bear false witness to their wives, wives bear false witness their husbands, stores bear false witness their customers, governments bear false witness their people and the list goes on and on. It is called lying.

Lying is intrinsic to people and can only be harnessed through the saving grace of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. When Jesus saves you, everything changes. He makes a new creature and old things are passed away.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

What does the bible say about liars?

We know that no liar will enter into heaven.

Revelation 21:27  And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 22:15  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

The liar’s lot is hell.

Revelation 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, AND ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

My friend, Jesus wants to save you, he wants to change your life and being for the good.

David said in Psalms 116:11  “I said in my haste, All men are liars.” While the police officer may believe that, we know that the genuine believer, while capable of it, in Christ can overcome it.

Do you lie? Jesus can help you with that.

Remember, the ten commandments are there to shew us we need Jesus, because we are, in and of ourselves, incapable of keeping them and therefore are condemned.

Galatians 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

The choice is still yours,
