Morning Devotion: Ten Commandments

Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

While this is not one of the ten commandments, it encompasses all of the commandments.

To keep the commandments, one has to go beyond the normal human nature called sin which was given us through Adam. Adam’s sin is passed to every person who ever lived or lives today.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

No one can keep the ten commandments, in fact, they were given to teach us that we need Christ. I know of no person who has never lied. Exodus 20:16  Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

I know of a woman who told so many lies, that she needed a notebook to record who she said what to. After she realized she was a sinner and needed Christ, she believed and was saved. Her addiction to telling lies was changed forever. She never told a lie after her conversion to Christ.

Do you know how this happened? She experienced the love of God and loved God who saved her soul.

1 John 4:19  We love him, because he first loved us.

She experienced the pure love of God and that love changed her heart and and soul and mind.

Everything she did after her salvation was executed out of a bond of love. She loved the Lord. In loving God, she found serving Him was not out of duty or for salvation it was because she was already saved.

When you love God, you never have trouble keeping the commandments of God. When you truly love your spouse, you never have a problem serving your spouse. If your spouse asks you to do something you have no problem doing what is asked because you love them.

1 John 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The reason you cannot keep all the commandments is because you are not saved and are incapable or you have drifted in your love for the Lord who saved you.

Revelation 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Remember, all the commandments are contained, completed and kept in love.

Some people do not like the phrases “thou shalt” or “thou shalt not” and the word “command.” They say, no one is going to tell me, command me or dictate to me. (It is amazing, they will say such things about God but not governing bodies or big tech, tv shows, sports figures, celebrities, businesses and other entities.) The reason is because they do not love the Lord and those words become offensive. To those who love God, they are not offensive.

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The choice is still yours,
