Morning Devotion: What’s the difference?

There are certain basics of the Christian belief that mandate undeniability. These truths are intrinsic, unchanging truths that draw conviction from the true believer.

1.       The virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2.       The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is God in the flesh.

3.       The substitutionary death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Today we will see that Jesus literally, bodily rose from the dead. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is a fundamental truth to the Christian faith.

This truth is essential to the gospel.

1 Corinthians 15:1  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

“He rose again the third day according to the scriptures” is a big controversy in the religious world today. There are many who believe that if Jesus rose form the dead it was only two days after died. They believe He died on good Friday and rose from the dead on Sunday morning. That is only two days. Where is the third day?

Matthew 12:39  But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

I ask again, where is the third day? I find it amazing that folks will believe what a church tells them rather than what God tells them. They make the church and what it says more authoritative than God, what a travesty.

There are some religions that do not believe Christ rose form the dead at all. He did rise form the dead and He is alive today. The hope of all believers is that Jesus rose from the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:13  But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14  And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15  Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16  For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.18  Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20  ¶But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Christ did rise from the dead and is alive today. That one truth aught to make men take thought. For if Jesus is alive, and He is God, He is indeed the living judge of each and everyone us.

Revelation 1:18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Because He lives forever, our salvation is forever. Hebrews 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

We also have the promise of the resurrection because He rose from the dead, He will one day come for us.

1 Corinthians 6:14  And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

We have that promise right now. The promise is ours to keep and to live with forever. We look forward to that time where we will be resurrected as well.

Colossians 3:1  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

1 Thessalonians 4:14  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

The day is coming, and it is coming soon.

Jesus said in John 6:40  “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

The choice is still yours,
