Morning Devotion: Lord’s Prayer

John 17:1  ¶These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, ….

John 17:6  ¶I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7  Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8  For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9  I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10  And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

The Lord’s prayer is not the outline as revealed in Matthew chapter six and Luke chapter eleven. The Lord’s prayer is this one here in John chapter seventeen. It is where Jesus is directly speaking with God the Father.

After finding that Jesus’ purpose was to glorify the Father as the Father glorified the Son through death on the cross, we now know that all things are of the Father.

We also know that all things will eventually be handed over to the Father through the efficacious work of Jesus on the cross. Jesus defeats death and hell and the devil himself. Everything will ultimately go to the God the Father.

1 Corinthians 15:27  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Revelation 4:11  Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Today, we look at verse six. John 17:6  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

Jesus manifested the name of God the Father to those whom God gave out of the world. They are the ones who keep God’s word.

Jesus said He made known the name of God to those whom God gave.

Knowing the name of God is so precious. Psalms 9:10  And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Here is how knowing the name of God the Father and the drawing of God the Father works.

The Jesus reveals the word of God, and the Father draws you through the word of God. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Jesus is and gives that word, He is called the living word of God and He has given us the bible. By that word you realize your need God and cannot have God because of a sinfulness of the heart and soul. Then you realize Jesus is God’s plan for you to be saved and have a relationship with God the Father.

John 17:6  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

John 6:44  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Once you are born-again, you, through the word of God, keep the word of God because you know God. Read that verses again: John 17:6  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

You might say, “How do I know God the Father is drawing me?” Read the word of God and let the word of God do its work. The word of God will always tell you the truth. It will tell you about your sinful self and how you need salvation. If you do not believe you are a sinner and you do not need God, then you are rejecting God’s leading and drawing. That is your choice. Reject Jesus, reject God’s drawing, it is simple as that.

John 12:48  He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

While the opposite is true as well. When you receive Jesus and His words, you have the Father. What a blessing.

Matthew 10:40  He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

The choice is still yours,
