Morning Devotion: Lord’s Prayer

John 17:1  These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said,…

John 17:6  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7  Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8  For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9  I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10  And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

There is an overall theme in this passage of scripture, it is God the Father. Everything is of God the Father.

In verse six we find God the Father giving calling and giving men to Jesus. Not only giving men but those men keep the word of God. Do you keep the word of God?

Verse 6 – I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

John 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24  He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

In verse seven we find That those who are of God through Jesus Christ, know they are of God because of Jesus.

Verse 7 – Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

1 Corinthians 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

In verse eight we find that Jesus gave the word of God, (He is the living word of God) and by that word tells us that Jesus is of God. Those who are of God, heard the word and received the word and were saved by the word, knowing Jesus came from God.

Verse 8 Jesus said – “For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”

1 John 4:9  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

In verse 9, Jesus prays for those who are His. He prays for the saved, the born-again.  “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.”

Notice He does not pray for this world. This world is on a crash course with God. It and those who reject Jesus are in big trouble. What a blessing to know that Jesus is our mediator. He goes to God the Father on our behalf.

1 Timothy 2:5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Jesus came from God because He is God manifest in the flesh. He came to give His life on the cross for you. In that one great act, He became your mediator between eternal life and eternal death.

1 Timothy 2:5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

He is God, very God in the flesh mediating for you. Usually in the mediating process you have a mediator between two people or two sides of an issue. That is not the case here. God demands a penalty of death for sin and God (Jesus) paid the price for sin and God (Jesus) mediates in that process.

Galatians 3:20  Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

If you do not trust in Jesus for eternal life, you have no mediator and you have no life.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

You can believe in God all day long and all your life, but if you never place your faith and trust in Jesus, the mediator of God, you have no life. It is that simple.

The devil believes in God and he is not saved.

James 2:19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Finally in verse 10 we find a wonderful glory in those who are born-again.  “And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.”

The choice is still yours,
