Morning Devotion: Read I Peter 1

1 Peter 1:10  ¶Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

11  Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12  Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

We live in a wonderful period of bible prophecy. We live in what is called the age of grace. The age of grace is nestled in the tail end of the age of the gentile as described in Daniel 2. The age of the gentile is in the middle of the prophecy of Daniel’s 70 weeks. I know it may be hard to understand all the prophecies and timelines, but suffice it to say this; we are at a time when our testimony is of most importance.

At any time, the Lord Jesus will return and take His beloved home with Him. That is called the rapture. After which the seventieth week of Daniel’s prophecy will be fulfilled. That is what the bible calls the time of Jacob’s trouble or the tribulation period. It will be a time of great tribulation.

This tribulation period is a time when God will punish sin and the sinner, He will perform His will as He said in Daniel 9:24  “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

My friend, you do not want to be here when that happens. That part of scripture and its fulfillment is eminent, it can happen at any time. It will happen.

All that to say this; Peter told us the gospel, the Old Testament prophets told us the gospel of Jesus’ birth and suffering for our sins and when it should happen; and now we find it is so important that even the angels of heaven desire to look into it.

In other words, the angels want to know about this salvation and they want to get involved. They want to look into it.

Have you ever had anyone annoy you because they were nosey and wanted to look into your business and you had to tell them to mind their own business? Well, here the angels want to look into the gospel of Jesus Christ.

They do not have the gospel for they cannot be saved. All the fallen angels and even the devil himself will be punished with everlasting fire. They have no hope. You on the other hand have the hope of the gospel. Whether you are saved or not you have the hope of the gospel. You can trust in Christ and be saved or you if you are already saved, you can take great comfort in the gospel knowing you are saved and have the promise of eternal life.

That is what the angels are interested in. They know the will of God is that every person be saved and they want to look into the matter.

They announced the birth of Christ to Mary, they heralded the birth of Christ to the world. Angels played a big part in biblical history. They are ministers to the saints in Christ. But they want to get involved in the gospel.

You and I were given that responsibility. We are the ones who were told to go to lost and dying world and preach the gospel. We are plan A, there is no plan B.

Mark 16:15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

2 Corinthians 5:20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Yes, we have this precious gift called the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are given the responsibility to give it every person we possibly can. The time is short the responsibility is great and you, my believing friend, are the messengers. Peter told us, the Old Testament prophets told us and the angels desire to look into it, but we are the instruments God uses.

Take the message of salvation to those around you, let them know there is a heaven to gain, a hell to shun and that Jesus is the Saviour of the world.  God loves you and wants you to be saved. If you are already saved, take the gospel message and go.

The choice is till yours,

Pastor Cook
