Morning Devotion: Read I Peter 1

1 Peter 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Peter writes to believers who were scattered for their faith. They were believers who were on the run for believing in Jesus. They were being tried for their faith. We, who live in 2022, are not being tried for our faith, not yet anyway.

As a result, we may not understand the full effect of what Peter is writing. However, we can glean truth from this wonderful letter.

The trying of faith is precious. The manifold temptations may be difficult. The reward is great. The revelation of these things is in Christ and His return. Therefore, our minds must be girt about with hope in Christ. All the while calling upon God and living as holy people. (Verses 1-17)

Peter then gives us the reason of the hope and the reason of why we can call upon God in confidence. We were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ.

We were not redeemed with silver or gold or tradition or any such thing. If you were redeemed with silver and gold and tradition, it would be those things to which you would trust. Those things are temporary and fail with time. Jesus never fails.

When your religion fails, or your faith in stuff fails (for moth and rust corrupts those things and thieves can steal them) or your hope in tradition fails, where will you be? But, a faith in Christ and His precious blood is a faith in something that never perishes.

Ephesians 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Colossians 1:14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

No matter what trial you go through, no matter what temptation you endure, you can call upon the Father knowing you have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS, YOU ARE CHRISTIAN. You were redeemed, forgiven and bought with the precious blood of Christ. Never forget that.

1 Peter 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

God who is all knowing, omniscient, knew you would need such salvation and an encouragement in your trial. From the foundation of the world Christ was foreordained and was made manifest in these last times for you, FOR YOU.

Galatians 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son,…

It is by Jesus Christ we have faith in God. I peter 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

My Christian believer, when trials come, have faith in God. It all starts with Jesus.

The choice is still yours,
