Morning Devotion: Read 1 Peter 1&2

1 Peter 1:24  ¶For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1 Peter 2:1  ¶Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

There is a surety in these verses, there is the surety of the brevity of life and the surety of the word of God.

All flesh is ad grass and does wither away and as James tells us it is like a vapour the vanishes.

One vanishes and the other lives on. Isaiah 40:8  The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

The gospel Peter speaks about in chapter one verse twenty-five is of the living word of God the endures forever, Jesus.

Anyone who believes the gospel of Jesus Christ will have the eternal life that does not wither nor does it vanish. So, the light affliction, the manifold temptations that plague people, are but for a moment in time compared to eternity, for the living word of God endures forever and so does eternal life.

Peter then uses the familiar word, “wherefore” meaning in light of or with this in mind.

1 Peter 2:1  Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

With this in mind lay aside any part of the old life, the lying, malice and guile and hypocrisies and envies and evil speakings and embrace the wonderful word of God.

People have a tendency, especially when going through a trial, to become grouchy and untenable, they lose the hope that lieth within them reverting back to the things they were saved from. God says don’t do that, be like new born babes which desire the milk and desire the word of God. In other words, when trouble rises turn to the Lord, always turn to the Lord.

If you have tasted the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, if you are born-again, you know the reality of these truths.

There is no reason to go back to the old man and there is every reason to stick with the new man, the saved man.

Ephesians 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26  Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27  Neither give place to the devil.

Colossians 3:8  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

1 Peter 2:1  Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

We are facing more and more and more trials each and every day. How you handle those trials reveal who and what you really are. Be as newborn babes, desire the wonderful milk of God’s word, be satisfied with the Lord.

The choice is still yours,
