Morning Devotion: Read 2 Peter 3

2 Peter 3:16  As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Peter is giving credence to the Apostle Paul’s writing when he says Paul wrote about them in his epistles as well. There is continuity in the scriptures; there is such continuity that we find there are no contradictions in the scriptures as well.

All the writers agree that there will be scoffers and those who do not understand the bible and are unlearned and wrest or twist the scriptures to their own liking. That is how you get so many different translations today.

One person wrote a book entitled “Things That Are Different Are Not the Same.”

If things are different, they cannot be the same.

The NIV is not the same as the NASV, nor are they the same as the NKJV or the ASV and so on. None of those different versions are the same as the King James Bible.

If they are not the same one must ask what are the differences? Well, there are literally thousands of differences. Most of those differences remove the deity of Christ, the blood atonement and salvation by grace believing in Jesus.

Then one must ask, which one is the right one? That brings us to a simple phrase that we all have heard before, “follow the money.”

When we started this book of 2nd Peter, we found that he was warning us of scoffers and who scoff because of lusts. And there you have it, lust.

2 Peter 3:3  Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

They are lustful just as Balaam was when he preached for Balak the king.

2 Peter 2:14  Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

15  Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

We also saw that they deny the Lord Jesus Christ who bought them.

2 Peter 2:1  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Now, Peter says: since you know these things, don’t be led astray with what they are teaching.

2 Peter 3:17  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

Hebrews 3:14  For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

Titus 2:11  ¶For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

We have something greater than what the scoffers and false prophets offer, we have Christ. I hope you have Christ; I hope you are saved and living for Jesus.

The choice is still yours,
