Morning Devotion: Read Acts 1

Acts 1:6  When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7  And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9  And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

There has been a lot of talk about the end times and what is happening in our world today. The disciples of the Lord were no different.

We are definitely in the birth pains toward the tribulation period for we are seeing massive deception and false christs and wars and rummers or reports of war. We are seeing earthquakes like never before. We are in a world-wide pestilence as we speak. Famines are on their way whether they are man made or natural they are coming.

However, the disciples were asking about the restoration of the kingdom to Israel. They were not asking about signs of the end times. God did give them that in Matthew 24, Luke 21 and so on.

What they wanted to know was when Jesus was going to restore Israel.

God gave Israel the land of Canaan and divided the land for each tribe.

Read Numbers 34-36. He did so with a blessing and a curse.

Deuteronomy 11:26  Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

27  A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28  And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

He promised the land to them as far back as Genesis 12:6  “And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. 7  And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.”

We are living in what is called the times of the gentiles. The gentiles are ruling the world right now. Israel lost their land when they went into captivity. At this point when the disciples are speaking, they are under Roman domination and rule.

They thought Jesus was going to restore to them the kingdom they lost, and He will, after the tribulation period. There many prophecies concerning that.

However, that is not how the Lord answered them.

He said:  “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.”

It was not their time to know. Although Jesus gave them many prophecies concerning the kingdom and its restoration, they were not to be concerned about it.

What were they to be concerned about?

Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

They were to be concerned about doing the Lord’s will. They were to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father and the power of the Holy Ghost. They were to be concerned about getting the power and getting busy witnessing. Witnessing means telling people about Jesus.

Mark 16:15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Luke 24:46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Matthew 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Now you know why we preach and teach Jesus Christ and repentance and salvation through Christ, that is what we are supposed to do.

My fellow believer, my Christian friend, have you told anyone about Jesus and His saving power? Have you told your family, your children, your spouses and relatives? Have you told your neighbours, and friends?

That is precisely what we are to be doing.

I am saddened by those who say they are saved and have told nobody. It’s almost as if they don’t care if those they know and love, die and go to a devil’s hell.

Is you are saved, you have the power of the Holy Ghost, use it, especially in these times that we live. Tell someone about Jesus

The choice is still yours,
