Morning Devotion: Read Acts 1

Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9  And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Luke 24:49  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50  And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51  And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52  And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53  And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Several things happened just before and after Jesus ascended into heaven.

The disciples were told to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of God the Father.  We shall see the promise fulfilled in chapter two. They would experience to filling of the Holy Ghost.

They were to be witnesses unto the Lord, or about the Lord. What would that witness be? It would be nonother than the death burial and resurrection of the Lord for mankind’s sin. It would be a message of repentance and belief in Christ Jesus.

Jesus said: Luke 24:47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

They had another promise given to them.  Acts 1:10  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

They were given the promise of the return of Jesus in the same way as He left.

My friend, we have this promise all through the scriptures.

Job 19:25  For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

2 Thessalonians 1:7  And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10  When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

Revelation 1:7  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

We are to wait for Him – 1 Thessalonians 1:10  And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Hebrews 9:28  So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Those who lovingly look forward to His coming, will be blessed. 2 Timothy 4:8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Do you lovingly look forward to the return of Christ? I hope you not only love His appearing but are actively worshiping Him.

Amen.

Verse 52&53, they praised and blessed and worshipped the Lord. There is great joy in serving, waiting watching and loving the return of Jesus.

The choice is still yours,
