Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Worthless Salt
Luke 14:34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? 35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Our Lord Jesus, after giving a parable of concerning the cost of being a disciple and the responsibility of such, gives us an admonition to be an active, functioning spirit fill disciples.
We find this subject covered in several other places of scripture.
In Matthew chapter 5 this same admonition follows the Lord’s beatitudes and the persecution of the saints. Face it, we, the believers, are the salt of the earth. We are the savour God wants implemented in this world. If we have lost our willingness or desire to be what God want us to be, for HIs glory and honour, we have then lost our saltiness and are good for nothing.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mark 9:49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
Have you ever heard someone say “That person has salt?” That means the person has grit and determination and sticktuativeness. Would true believers in Christ have grit and determination and sticktuativeness for God.
When we consider our examples like Peter and Paul and John and all the disciples and women of the bible, we see men and woman who were faithful to the end; they never lost their salt. They were the salted ones who pointed others Christ the only one who could save a soul from sin and the penalty of it.
(Read Hebrews chapter 11.)
They were the only ones who lived for God and followed Him and His word.
Today many have replaced salt with “love.” They say love everyone and let everyone live the way they want and God, in love, will let everyone in heaven. That my friend is not found in the bible, not anywhere.
God loves everyone, that is very true but, God’s holiness and righteousness will not let sin into heaven. (Galatians 5:19-21 and Revelation 21:8) In His love and holiness and righteousness, God gave us His Son Jesus who died on the cross to pay for sin and the penalty of sin. When a person realizes their sin is what condemns them and they turn to Christ Jesus to save their soul, then, in love, God saves them through the Lord Jesus Christ.
That is what this wonderful time of year is all about. Jesus died and was buried and rose from the dead that men may turn from sin to a loving Saviour who would forgive their sin and give them eternal everlasting life and a home in heaven. Jesus regenerates the lost from death unto life from unrighteousness to righteousness.
Too many Christians are giving up on their walk with God and losing their saltiness. I often wonder what God could do if all true believers would retain their saltiness for God.
Christian, live for the Lord; when opportunity presents itself use the salt God has given you.
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
The choice is still yours,
