Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Parable of the Lost Coin

Luke 15:8  Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9  And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10  Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

The value of one is the theme of this passage of scripture. As with the previous passage were the Lord left the ninety and nine sheep to find the one lost sheep so here the Lord uses an illustration of the lost coin.

I was recently asked the question of individuality; we know the Lord died for the sins of the world but where is the concern for that one person, the individual?

I was glad the question was asked and cheerfully pointed to these two passages of scripture.

My friend, God is very interested in you as an individual. So much so that he gave His very best for your salvation and seeks to save you who are lost.

In our text today we see the parable of the lost coin, where the woman lights a candle and looks, she sweeps the house searching, and then finds that one lost coin.

From the beginning of time, shortly after creation, when Adam and Eve had sinned and were separated from God, Jesus came and sought them in the garden.

Genesis 3:8  And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9  And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Today we find the Lord seeking the lost.

Luke 19:10  For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Today, the Lord sends the light of His wonderful glorious word to enlighten and find the lost. Just as the woman in our text lights the candle so Jesus sends the light to find that one individual to save their soul.

Luke 1:78  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

John 8:12  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

My born again Christian friend, you have the light, would you walk in the light and be that light to show the lost world the light that can save their souls?

Matthew 5:14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Would you my Christian friend be in the business of seeking the lost for Christ?

My unsaved friend, Jesus is seeking you. Would you see the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
