Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Light You Have?
Luke 11:33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. 34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. 35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. 36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
One light that has never been hid under a bushel is Christ and the good news of salvation. If you come to the light of Jesus you will see clearly.
John 8:12a Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world:
Luke 11 further explains that the eye, the eye of the beholder is where light enters. What do you allow your eye to see?
Let me explain: the eye of the beholder can either be full of light or full of darkness. Spiritually speaking the eye, the understanding, the wisdom of the eye can either be full of righteousness or full of unrighteousness.
We know that in God there is no darkness at all. 1John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
The born again believer has the light, they have Jesus. Their body is full of the light. The unbeliever has only darkness.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Jesus is the light of the world and in him is no darkness at all. Do you have the light? Can you see clearly?
This text offers a choice, a self examination when it says “Take heed.”
Luke 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. 36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
Jesus said in John 12:46 “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
My born again friend, let the word of God encourage you.
Jesus delivered us from the power of darkness. Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
1Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
The choice is still yours,
