Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 5:36  And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. 37  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. 38  But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. 39  No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

The Lord is not interested in patchwork. The Lord is interested in the new.

When a person is born again, He is a new creature in Christ Jesus. The old things are gone and the new is in place.

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

To try and make the old look better with patchwork is futile for it eventually tears. The old cloth cannot handle the new. And, no one can put new wine into old wineskins because the wineskins will burst.

In other words, you cannot mix true salvation with religion, it will not work.

When one is born again there is a change, a new life, new desires, new hopes, new relationship with God through the Lord Jesus, everything is new. There is a newness of life.

When one is not truly saved, they will try to patch their life or turn over a new leaf or adopt religion; they will try to incorporate Jesus into their life in hopes of finding change and new life. It will not work.

Newness of life is only in and though Jesus. Anything else will result in failure and a return to the old life.

Luke 5:39  No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

2Peter 2:22  But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Are you seeking true change in your life? Jesus can completely change your life when He changes you.

Your pastor cannot change you, your priest cannot change you, your religion cannot change you, your church cannot change you, only Jesus can change you.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
