Morning Devotion: Read Isaiah
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
As we progress toward Christmas and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, we take another look and the prophecy concerning His name. Notice we said His name not names.
The bible teaches us that The name of Jesus is Wonderfull, Counsellor, The mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. All these, and more describe our Lord. Really, when you think about it, Jesus in indescribable.
We find that not only is He wonderful but He is the counsellor.
How and where would one find the counsel of our Lord today? How can we glean good counsel to meet our need and answer our questions today?
First, we must remember that Jesus is the Living word of God.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word of God was made flesh, meaning, God made Himself flesh and Jesus was born.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
We must also remember that Jesus gave us His word, the written word of God.
Deuteronomy 32:1 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
Jeremiah 22:29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
John 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Our Wonderfull Counsellor has given us His word, it is called the bible. The counsellor has given us His word, there, in His word, is where we find good counsel today. (In the English language it is called the King James Bible)
Anyone seeking to find answers, whether they be about things in life and living or death and dying, the Living Word of God has given us the written word of God to answer all of our questions.
Our dear Lord, the Babe in the manger is our Counsellor and He is Wonderful.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
