Morning Devotion: Read Colossians 4

Colossians 4:11  And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. 12  Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 13  For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis. 14  Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. 15  Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 16  And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. 17  And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it. 18  The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen. Written from Rome to Colossians by Tychicus and Onesimus.

We know that the name of Jesus means Jehovah is Salvation. Since Jesus is Jehovah, He is salvation, the embodiment of salvation. We know this because Jesus is the fulness of the godhead bodily.

Colossians 2:9  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

The name Justus was a common name given which means righteous or just one. It gives you idea of one who follows the law of God.

Galatians 5:3  For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

James 2:10  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (All are guilty before God for we all have broken the law of God. Only in Christ Jesus can you be made righteous or justified.)

We also know that Jesus followed the whole law of God.

Hebrews 10:7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

By the way, there has never been anyone one on earth that has ever been able to keep the whole law of God, other than the Lord Jesus. That is why you need Jesus. He is the only one who kept the whole law and died innocent on the cross so you and I could be saved.

We also know that Aristarchus and Marcus along with Justus were Jew for they were of the circumcision.

Colossians 4:11  And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.

Paul made an important statement here; he said “these only.” Why would he say that? These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God.

They were Jews and as Jews, they were a physical, viewable confirmation of the gospel of the kingdom of God. In other words they were there to prove that both Jew and Gentile could be saved by the same gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Most Jews did not claim Jesus and even rejected Him. They were the ones who slew Jesus and hung Him on calvary’s cross. They were the ones who persecuted Paul to the point that Paul his friends were in prison. That is why Paul said “these only” for they were the only ones with him that were Jewish and born again.

What about you, do you know the gospel of the the Lord Jesus are a part of the faith of Abraham? All those who are saved in Christ Jesus are of the faith of Abraham, just like Justus.

Galatians 3:8  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
