Morning Devotion: Read Colossians 4

Colossians 4:15  Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 16  And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. 17  And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it. 18  The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen. Written from Rome to Colossians by Tychicus and Onesimus.

As Paul closes this letter to the church at Colosse he gives a couple of commands. One is that this letter be read among those in the church and the church of the Laodiceans. If we may take it step further, the entire bible is to be read in the churches.

1 Thessalonians 5:27  I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

We are given clear direction as to what God would have us to do with the word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are to give it to the entire world.

Matthew 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Luke 24:46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

If you are a believer, born again by Christ Jesus our Lord, you should be reading God’s word on a daily basis. Not only should you be reading God’s word, written to you, you should be memorizing it and practicing it  and living it. After all, Jesus gave you everything from calvary’s cross; He saved your soul and gave you everlasting life.

Psalm 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

1Timothy 4:15  Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Do you give yourself wholly, completely and entirely to God’s word?

2Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As Paul said: And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

Do you spend time in God’s word? Do you know what God says? I am convinced, most people do not know how to make godly decisions, or what’s happening in the world today, or how to deal with and live with others because they do not read God’s word. They will listen to others and what others have to say, but to God and His word, they do not.

One great example is Good Friday. People believe Jesus was buried on good Friday not knowing what God’s word says. This whole nation of Canada will shut down on good Friday believing a lie. They will believe what their priest or father to ministers say rather than studying it for themselves in God’s word.

Jesus was NOT buried on good Friday. Someone has deceived you and it wasn’t God.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
