Morning Devotion: read Ecclesiastes

Ecclesiastes  9:11  I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

The man under the sun is the man that looks at things from the worldly point of view rather than from the viewpoint of God. This view, this life, without understanding that God is in control will only lead to fatalism.

This viewpoint was well illustrated by Doris Day years ago.  “Que Sera, Sera (What ever will be will be.)" sung be Doris Day in 1956 is the view of unsaved men everywhere.

While man orchestrates or attempts to orchestrate his own future he does so without God. This is vanity under the sun.

As believers, we do not believe in time and chance, We believe that God is in control and God works on the behalf of man, especially in the lives of His own children.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

James 4:13  Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15  For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

For the most part, the world looks at things as chance while the believer looks at things through the lens of God’s word.

There is no such things as chance with God.

Proverbs16:9  A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

Proverbs 21:29  A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

Would you let God lead you and guide you in this life? Would you let God save your soul?

Psalm 25:9  The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

Psalm 31:3  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalm 32:8  I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

How you look at life is up to you. I prefer to look at whitings from God’s point of view, after all that is the whole duty of man.

Ecclesiastes 12:13  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
