Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Mustard Seed and the Leaven
Luke 13:18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. 20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
The kingdom of God; what is the kingdom of God? God’s kingdom is everywhere for God created all things for His honour and glory.
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
It is sad that not all men glorify the Lord God while they are alive. They eventually will glorify God for every knee shall bow.
However, our parables teach a truth about God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom is like a mustard seed that grows to a huge plant and like leaven (what we call yeast) which expands till the whole is leavened. (Like a loaf of bread which has fully risen.)
Both the mustard seed and the leaven expand. In the parable of the mustard seed the plant grows and all the fowls of the air lodge in the branches. Fowls are representative of that which is evil, not good.
We read about that in Matthew 13:4 “And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:”
Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
The mustard seed growing into a tree represents christiandom, not true Christianity. As in the tree, so in christiandom we find all sorts of religions and beliefs (the fowls of the air) that include Christ but are evil in the worship of Christ. For instance, the catholic church has Christ in their religion but keep Him on the crucifix and do not worship the everlasting risen living Lord Jesus Christ, they worship Mary. Church of Christ and Church of God have Jesus in their denomination but believe you are saved through baptism. As with modern charismatics, the religion is all about how you can bless yourself and how you can become better, without repentance in Christ.
Remember the Lord Jesus is speaking about end times. Today we have a conglomeration of religions and denominations that lodge in the tree of christiandom not true Christianity.
As in the parable of the leaven, the leaven represents the permeation of these religions and denominations until the whole thing is corrupt. Read Revelation chapters two and three to see the corruption of the churches.
My friend, there is only one way to be saved and one way to worship. We are saved in and through or Lord Jesus Christ. We worship God in and through our Lord Jesus Christ.
One day the kingdom of God will be cleansed of the fowls and the leaven. When Jesus returns things will be cleansed, the fowls will be gone and the leaven will be removed.
Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ:
Are you a true believer in Christ Jesus or are you in some false worship system? Are you a part of christiandom or Christianity?
