Morning Devotion: Read Isaiah - Whom or What Do You Worship?
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Notice verse 6 says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:”
The child was born, but the Son was given. The Son is from everlasting to everlasting, therefore, the Son was given.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
The Son given is Emmanuel which is God with us. That speaks of an everlasting and ever continuing God. (Yes my friend, Jesus is God.)
Jesus said in Revelation 22:13 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
When we say, the Son was given, we are talking about God manifest in the flesh.
1Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
There is no argument here, for it is without controversy that God was manifest in the flesh.
With that one thought in mind, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given”, we know that worshiping, the day, Christmas Day, is inappropriate. We worship Christ the Saviour of the world.
When you worship Christmas Day rather than Christ, you lose focus on the real meaning of Christmas. No where does the Lord tell us to worship the day. When you worship the day a host of other things can get interjected into it. It brings in the spirit of Christmas, (rather than the Spirit of God.) Santa, Elves and some on the shelf, Yule tide (which is worshipping the solstice), the mistletoe (which brings in a flirtatious and sexual content) and a host of other things contrary to the Son who was given. Worshiping the Christmas Day rather than the Son removes what is supposed to be the biggest day of worship to Christ, the Son of God.
Unto us the child was born, but the Son was given. Rejoice over the Son, praise and be happy in Christ. Celebrate Christ and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. Give presents and gifts and enjoy fellowship around the Son who was given. Bless others with Merry Christmas, knowing it is about Christ the Son of God.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
The real meaning of Christmas is the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Praise God! Romans 6:23b… the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The choice is still yours,
