Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs - The Blessings of Wisdom
Proverbs 8:1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. 4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. 5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
The book of proverbs is filled with wisdom. Wisdom is the principle thing. Pro 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Again, we see wisdom crying at the gates. The gate were the place on concourse and the entering in of the city. It was the place where men sat in open judgment and even held court. We saw that in proverbs one.
Proverbs1:21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Where do we have this type of concourse or gate today? Our roads are open and people are fast moving in cars and all kinds of transit. They go out their back door into the garage and leave in their cars. They work all day and come home driving into heir garages and then back into their homes closing the garage door shutting everyone out. There is very little one on one personal communication. The chief place of concourse is now in the home, in private, in solitude and yet full of unwise things. It is called internet.
We conduct all our business on internet. We communicate with others on internet. We buy food and have it delivered; we bank and pay bills on internet. We send pictures, and let others know what we do personally on internet. But, we seldom find wisdom crying out for all to hear. If it is there, most just scroll past for some other attraction. (One person said, men fall in private before they ever fall in public.)
Wisdom is truth and righteousness, there is nothing perverse in the words of wisdom. Wisdom is plain speech and right words if your are willing to listen and understand.
Proverbs 8:7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
The father (which was introduced in chapter one) is still giving instruction and still compelling the son to receive and count wisdom more important than silver and gold.
Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. 12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
Again we find wisdom’s worth in righteousness for in righteousness there is no evil, pride or arrogance.
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
If our leaders of the world and local leaders would exercise true godly wisdom this world would be a better place. One day, there will be a wise leader, his name is Jesus. When He returns He will rule in godly wisdom.
Proverbs 8:15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. 16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. 17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. 18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
Where is wisdom found? Wisdom is sound in God’s word. Wisdom is of the LORD.
Hosea 14:9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.
The choice is still yours,
