Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 16:16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

To obtain godly wisdom is to have something more precious than silver and gold. While the world hungers and gathers and stockpiles gold and silver, titanium and jewels, the one who has godly wisdom has something far more precious.

Proverbs 3:15  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18  She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

Proverbs 8:10  Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11  For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Psalms 119:127  Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.

Ecclesiastes 7:12  For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

Job 28:12  But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? 13  Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. 14  The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. 15  It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. 16  It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. 17  The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. 18  No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. 19  The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. 20  Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

Job 28:28  And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God and it is for those who perish.

1Corinthians 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19  For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20  Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21  For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

The world gathers gold and silver and jewels in abundance thinking themselves to be rich, not knowing that the gold is nothing but pavement in heaven and the jewels cover the walls.

Revelation 21:18  And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19  And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20  The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21  And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22  And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Matthew 16:26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Why struggle for earthly riches like silver and gold when we have them in abundance waiting for us in heaven. It is better to have God’s wisdom than mere gold and silver.

My friend, it is better to find salvation and the wisdom of God than to make worldly wisdom and silver and gold your god. These things are but for a moment and perish, whereas salvation and heaven are forever.

James 2:5  Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Can you see the difference? You can be poor and be rich or you can be rich and be poor in the things of God and godly wisdom.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
