Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 16:20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he. 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. 23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. 24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
One person stated that this portion of proverbs is an epigram on applied wisdom.
Applied wisdom, applied godly wisdom, (for that is what the book of proverbs is all about), is for handling life’s affairs under God’s tutelage.
Applying wisdom brings good, it brings happiness and causes one to be prudent. Applying godly wisdom and understanding is from a wellspring of life to him that hath it.
Do you have the well spring of life?
The wellspring of life is from God and from that is godly wisdom and understanding.
A wonderful example of this is found in John chapter 4 where Jesus speaks with a woman of the night.
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
This dear woman needed the water of life; Jesus is the source of living water. He is the source of water springing up into a wellspring of life. Do you have it, do you have Jesus?
The bible clearly indicates that this water is free provided by the Lord Himself.
Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Jesus Himself heralds the good news of receiving the water of life and gives the church (the true church) the commission of dipping and serving the water to all.
Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Jesus is the one speaking to the woman at the well offering her the water of life and it is Jesus in revelation 22 offering the same water to and through the church of the living God.
The point this morning is this: The wellspring of living water leads to wise living.
Do you understand, do you have the wellspring of life, do you have godly wisdom? This type of wisdom is only found in Christ Jesus.
The choice is still yours,
