Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 27:1  Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

As a child I read a story about a grasshopper who would only make excuses so he could procrastinate. When winter came the ants were well taken care of for they worked all summer to store reserves. The grasshopper died. 

Procrastination is the thief of time. 

I have a friend who has a bumper sticker on his truck that reads “git er done.” He is a successful business man who does not procrastinate. 

Never put off for tomorrow what you can accomplish today. Boasting of what you can do tomorrow and never doing anything to prepare for it results in consternation. Bragging about tomorrow should be done with caution; you never know what tomorrow has waiting for you. 

James 4:13  Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15  For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16  But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17  Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

There are a great many people who put off what they can do today, with God, thinking they have tomorrow. How many do you suppose have given the excuse, tomorrow, tomorrow, I will make things right with God and tomorrow never comes? 

2Corinthians  6:2  (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

My Christian friend, keep your account with God as short as possible, in other words, make sure your sins are confessed as soon as possible. Never hold on to sin, quickly confess it and be right with God. 

1John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 66:18  If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: 19  But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. 20  Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
