Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. 33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. 34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
God knows each step you take and each decision you make.
Will you make the greatest decision you can ever make; will you trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour?
The Lord told Peter that he was going to deny that he knew the Lord. Peter denied the notion that he would ever do such a thing. He even told the lord he would die for Him.
Matthew 26:35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Mark 14:31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
Peter was very brave in his speech. Peter was very brave in his actions for he did stand for the Lord and defended him while he was with the group.
John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. 11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
However, when Peter was by himself watching Jesus, after they had taken him, he did not have the intestinal fortitude to stand for the lord. Peter did deny the Lord.
Luke 22:54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. 57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. 58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. 59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. 61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
Talk is easy when you are with your crowd, but to stand up for Jesus when you are by yourself is a different story.
Christian, would you stand for the Lord no matter where you are and no matter what the circumstances?
The great thing is this; Jesus prayed for Peter and is praying for you.
Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
My friend, the Lord is praying for you as well. Would you trust Him?
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
The choice is still yours,
