Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 21:28  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Luke 21:33  Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 34  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36  Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. 37  And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. 38  And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

It is true, what we know about God is revealed by God. Without such we would not know God. Because of His love toward and for us God has chosen to reveal Himself to us through His word. By His word we know Him.

I understand that the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. Psalm 19:1-2

In Luke 21 we are told much of what will happen in the end times. When we see the signs and begin to put them together and understand what is really going on, then we lift our heads and look up for our redemption draweth nigh.

GOD said it and it is true, everything God has said has already and will come to pass. His word does not change. Luke 21:33  Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Our Lord warns us about not becoming entangled with the things of this world that would turn our heart and minds away from Him.

Luke 21:34  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

The word “surfeiting” means to recover from a headache cause by a stupor of being drunk. That word coupled with drunkenness give the idea of one who is continually getting drunk and recovering over and over again. It is called addiction. We also see the phrase, “cares of this life” meaning folks are more concerned with the cares of this world than they are for God and what God is doing.

Living in such a way take ones mind off of the true issues and the end time happenings that will come upon them with unawares, and will catch them like a snare. The principle of a snare or trap is unawareness.

Luke 21:35  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

To be delivered from the snare is to trust in the Lord Jesus.

Psalm 91:1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9  Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Luke 21:36  Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
