Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 23:12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Proverbs 23:19  Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

The writer of this Proverb, Solomon, is gently admonishing his son to follow the Lord with his heart. He admonishes with the principle of applying the heart to instruction and knowledge.

“Apply thine heart” and “guide thine heart” are steps that we as believers must take ourselves. God gives you every opportunity to apply your heart and guide your heart through His word.

Proverbs 2:1  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3  Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

All through the scriptures we are admonished take personal responsibility and personal action with regard to God’s word and will.  God says seek ye first the kingdom of God, ask and ye shall receive, call upon Me, learn of me, etc. These are things we must take upon ourselves.

I you desire wisdom, ask God, He will give you wisdom.

James 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

For the believer, the Christian, the born-again person, God makes everything available to you for all of your faith and practice and living this life. It is up to you to make application and let God’s word guide you.

Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Christian, are you reading God’s word? Are you applying what you read?  Are you letting God’s word guide you?

If you are not a born-again believer, God makes salvation available to you as well. While you cannot save yourself, you can personally trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to save your soul.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The choice is still yours,
