Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 23:15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
As the father speaks intimately with his son he explains that his heart rejoices in the fact that his son walks in wisdom and speaks right things. That should be the goal of every father. Seeing your children walk in such a way comforts and rejoices the heart knowing your children walk in truth, wisdom and righteousness.
The same applies to God our Father as He watches His children and rejoices in the fact that they too walk in truth and in wisdom and righteousness.
3John 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Psalms 26:1 A Psalm of David. Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. 2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. 3 For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.
Could you pray the same prayer as David? Could you say you have walk in your integrity trusting the Lord.
Both in Proverbs 23 and in this Psalm we find the word “reins.” That word is the word used when one rides a horse and uses the reins to guid the horse. Reins are used to direct the will of the horse.
In both passages we find that word used on a personal level. In Proverbs, the will of the father rejoices when the will if the son is good and right.
In Psalms David yields his will to God the Father. He gives his will over to God’s testing when he says “try my reins and my heart.”
Is your will pleasing to God the Father, or, do you have a will of your own?
If God were to test you, would your will be rebellious or angry or without faith? Would your will be against God? Could you pray as David: “Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.”
The choice is still yours,
