Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Blame Game
Exodus 32:15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. 17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. 18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear. 19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. 20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it. 21 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them? 22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. 23 For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. 24 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf. 25 And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
Moses descends from the mount and hears the singing, sees the nakedness and the partying and the false idol the golden calf. He burns and brakes the idol and grinds it to powder and casts it on the water and then made the worshipers drink of it. (We all know what happens when you eat or drink something, eventually it becomes refuse. That is exactly what an idol is.)
The truth of the matter is this; no idol can ever help anyone. Idols are not alive, they cannot save you. They cannot even save themselves let alone save you.
Isaiah 44:9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. 10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? ( I encourage you to read Isaiah 44:9-20 and see the folly of idolatry.)
When questioned by Moses, Aaron tried to distance himself from the whole matter.
He said the people made me do it. “And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.”
The blame game started all the way back in Genesis when Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the devil. People are always pointing the finger at others to shift accountability away from themselves.
Genesis 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
Then Aaron said the idol made itself. “And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.”
We know that was not true because Aaron made it himself. Exodus 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf:..
God knew the truth and would have destroyed Aaron had it not been for Moses praying for him.
Deuteronomy 9:20 And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time. 21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.
My friend, if you are in a church where they worship and serve idols and images of dead people, you are in the wrong church. If the leadership of your church leads you to worship like that, leave.
Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Deuteronomy 10:20 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.
The choice is still yours,
