Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Meeting in the Tent

Exodus 33:7  And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp. 8  And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle. 9  And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses. 10  And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door. 11  And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

Moses and Joshua went into the tabernacle of congregation, (tabernacle means tent or temporary dwelling) and there they met with God. This was not the completed tabernacle. The materials for the finished tabernacle had not been collected and would not be until chapter thirty five. It would not be constructed until then.

Here we have the beginnings of the tabernacle where Moses met with the Lord. This meeting tabernacle was placed outside of the congregation. When the permanent tabernacle would be built it would be placed in the centre of the congregation. The Lord should always be the centre of your heart and life.

When Moses went into this tabernacle of congregation the all the people stood in their tent doors to watch him. When he entered into the tabernacle, the people worshipped in their tents doors.

If you will notice, when Moses entered the tabernacle, God met with him as well.

Exodus 33:9  And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses.

Oh, my friend, this is the same cloudy pillar the guided Israel and protected Israel up to this point.

Exodus 13:21  And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

When the cloudy pillar descended the people knew God was present. Worship must always be in the presence of God. Worship is never to be with idols as happened earlier with the golden calf. This worship was true worship to an holy and righteous God.

There was no fanfare, no worship teams, no music, no congregational singing, there was simply worship, worship to our great and mighty God.

John 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Do you worship the Lord? Do you reverence and pay homage to the Lord. Do you humble yourself in adoration, confession, prayer and thanksgiving to the Lord?

True worship begins with Jesus. John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
