Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Moses Desires God
Exodus 33:12 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
The desire of every Christian aught to be the Lord. Do you desire the Lord?
Exodus 33:13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee,…
Do you really want to know the Lord? Moses did.
Paul the Apostle was the same way. Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Where is your affection, is it toward the Lord Jesus that you may truly know him?
Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Moses had seen great miracles from God. He had seen all the plagues levied upon Egypt, He had seen God open the red sea, he had seen God feed Israel from heaven with manna. He had already gone up into the mountain and received from the mouth of God the ten commandments and the laws, the instructions for the tabernacle, and now he has a great desire to know God even more.
No doubt his task was great and his responsibilities were heavy, but here he wanted to know God more.
God said Moses had found grace in His sight. Yet, Moses wanted to know the LORD in a greater way.
If you are a believer you have already found grace in the sight of God; do you want to know Him even more? Do you desire to know the Lord in a greater way, to know His love and grace and mercy and yes, the power of God in a greater way?
We, as believers, we are happy the Lord saved us; wouldn’t it be wonderful to intimately know the Lord, to know Him in a greater way, to grow closer to Him and draw night to Him?
Great responsibilities lay before Moses, he knew he could not accomplish what was required without knowing the Lord in a greater way. He already had God’s grace, but he knew he needed more.
Jesus said in John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Do you want to know the Lord? draw nigh to Him and He will draw nigh to you.
2Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
The choice is still yours,
