Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Moses Makes New Tablets

Exodus 34:1  And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest. 2  And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount. 3  And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount. 4  And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. 5  And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6  And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7  Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. 8  And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9  And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

Moses makes new tables of stone replacing the one ones broken before Israel when they worshipped the golden calf. (Exodus 32)

When Moses ascended back up the mountain, The LORD wrote the ten commandments once again. Please be reminded, the ten commandments are God’s commands; there is not one person (apart from the Lord Jesus Christ) who has ever kept them all. Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

With that in mind we need to focus on verses six and seven.

Psalm 86:15  But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

The key word in Exodus six and Psalm eighty six is the word truth. There is abundant mercy and graciousness and long-suffering and goodness if a person will see the truth.

If you are not truthful with God or yourself, seeing yourself for who you are in light of the Lord, you are without salvation, for God does not save the self-righteous he saves the humble.

Psalm 85:9  Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. 10  Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Then we see in verse seven that the LORD Keeps mercy for thousands, forgives iniquity and transgression and sin. Jesus forgives only in truth. No truth, no mercy, no forgiveness.

What’s left? That which is left is the continuance of sin and the penalty thereof.

7b …visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

What are you leaving your children? What are you teaching your children? Dad, mom, the way you live before God and before your children is the way your children will live. (Only through Jesus can that cycle be broken.)

Go back to Exodus twenty and read the ten commandments again. Ask yourself if you are living up to God’s truth and righteousness.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Upon hearing the LORD give this truth to Moses, the first thing he did was bow before the LORD. 8  And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

What is your relationship with the Lord?

There are always two choices on the shelf, serving Jesus or serving self.

The choice is still yours,
