Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 31:1  The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. 2  What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

It is very important that we receive instruction from our parents. Parents have been around longer than you. They have experienced more than you and have learned more than you. One day you may be a parent wishing your children would receive your instruction. Parents, for the most part love their children and grandchildren and so forth and want the best for them.

In our text we find something interesting. We find a mother addressing her son and using what we like to call a pet name. The mother here is believed to be Bathsheba. Bathsheba is the mother of Solomon the king of Israel. She calls her son Lemuel which means “Unto God” or “With God.”

The given name “Solomon” means peaceful. Let’s put that together, Solomon name means peaceful and the his pet name “Lemuel” means “Unto God or With God”; together that means “Peace With God.”

What does your name mean?

I was at the Staples the other day and met a young East Indian girl at the checkout. Her name was difficult to pronounce, so asked her to say her name. Then I asked her what her name meant. She then asked me, are you a Christian? I said yes. Then she quoted John 14:6.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

She said, my name means the same as John 14:6. WOW! What a beautiful name.

Like king Solomon, you can be known as a person who has peace with God and the peace of God.

The peace with God was obtained by the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross when He paid the sin debt for you and the entire world. The way you can have the peace with God is by turning from self and sin (called repentance) and placing you faith In Christ Jesus.

Every born again believer has peace with God. Romans 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Every born again believer can have the peace of God in their hearts as the walk with the Lord.

Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

My friend, do you have peace with God and the peace of God? What a wonderful comfort to ones heart in knowing they have peace with God and the peace of God.

If you desire to be saved and experience the true peace with God through His Son Jesus Christ you may.

By faith, simply pray this prayer believing with all your heart. "God I know I am a sinner in need of salvation. I now repent of my sin asking you to save me. Please come into my heart and save my soul for I cannot save myself. I now place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour whom you have sent."

Please let us know if you have made that decision.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
