Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 29:3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
Proverbs 21:17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
Waisting your money on things that are temporary is simply to incur loss.
The book of Hebrews give us an example in the life of Moses.
Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
The pleasures of sin are but for a moment. While people employ such pleasures for gain, the buyer suffers loss.
We are again reminded of Luke chapter 15 where the young man suffered loss in riotous living.
Luke 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
This young man’s brother knew he spent his living on harlots.
Luke 15:30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
While this type of activity is legal in some countries, the principle is the same, temporary pleasures cost much and leave little for reward.
Remember, sin will take you farther than you want to go, it will keep you longer than you want to stay and it will cost you more than you want to pay.
Certainly the prodigal son caused grief to his father rather than rejoicing.

The father rejoiced when the son repented and returned.
Rejoicing is manifested when Godly wisdom is employed.
The word wisdom is found 53 times in the book of proverbs. From the first chapter to the last chapter wisdom is the theme of the book.
Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
The wisest thing any person can do is to realize that choosing Jesus over sin is a decision that brings eternal salvation; it is choosing Jesus over anything else.
